This GeoDataPack of Nelson Mandela Bay local municipality, which includes the city of Port Elizabeth, has been released.

Geosmart Crop Monitoring @ Vaalharts

This animation of Geosmart’s satellite-based crop condition maps shows that many of the cash crops (maize, wheat, barley, lucerne and groundnuts) are planted on a rotational basis

GeoSmart Drought Watch @ Patensie

The citrus farming in the Patensie area has been hit hard by the ongoing drought. In this article a satellite image of 10 January 2018 is compared with one taken two years ago. It seems like many fields and orchards are fallow in the latest image and many of the orchards are under water stress. Rain is desperately needed to save the 2018 harvest.

GeoSmart Drought Watch @ Stellenbosch

The impact of the current drought in the Western Cape is quite dramatic when observed from space. This animation shows how the drought has reduced vegetation in Stellenbosch.

GeoSmart Drought Watch @ Vredendal

This animation shows a substantial drop in the actively growing vineyards in the Vredendal region, compared to the same period (January) in 2017 and 2016. It is clear that many vineyards (the dominating crop in this area) have been left to die (or were purposely removed) this season, while the health of the remaining vineyards is clearly also being affected by the drought (lighter shades of green).
